About Valium Addiction

Word Count: 427

Valium addiction can be quite dangerous and most people probably do not realize the full extent of the danger.  There are a lot of people out there who take Valium on a daily basis for the wrong reasons.  Many of them take the drug for either sleep or anxiety, in which both cases there are now much better alternatives that are not as addictive.  Part of the problem might come from doctors who tend to prescribe the medication to readily for any number of conditions in which there are better alternatives.

One of the reason that an addiction of this nature is so dangerous is due to the seizure risk.  People do not realize how their chances of having a seizure increase when they get hooked on a medication such as Valium, especially when they suddenly go without the drug–a situation which is likely to occur eventually for anyone.  The danger of withdrawal is that the person is prone to having a seizure, even if they have never had one before.  I have experienced this first hand at the drug rehab center that I work at: people have brushed it off, saying “I don’t have seizures,” like they are completely immune or something.  Then they ended up having a seizure due to withdrawal from Valium.  For some reason, people tend to underestimate the potential withdrawal from Valium addiction.

This addiction becomes even more dangerous when alcohol is involved.  This is because the drinking compounds the effects of the Valium, and increases the likelihood of a seizure by an even greater factor.  The absolute worst cases of detox that I have seen in my experience have always been from people who were both drinking large quantities of alcohol and combining this with a Benzodiazepine such as Valium.  They always have the roughest, most dangerous detox process and frequently end up in the hospital.

Valium addiction is no joke and it is not something to mess around with.  If you are constantly asking yourself “how do I stop using drugs” then it is time to take some action. If you are hooked on the medication then I would suggest that you seek professional help.  Try to find a drug rehab center that has a full medical detox unit.  This is the only way that you can safely come off such a drug, and even then it can be quite dangerous.

There are alternatives out there for this pill.  Regardless of what you are being treated for, there are safer medications that you can be taking rather than a Benzodiazepine.
